LWA Celebrates High School Summer Internship with PIC and BSA

Over the summer, LWA hosted another successful and rewarding high school summer internship! Our internship program would not be possible without the work of the Boston PIC (Private Industry Council) and the BSA, who connect minority students from the Boston Public Schools with local businesses in the design and construction industry. While mentorships have always been a part of the culture at LWA, we’ve partnered with the PIC group since 2022 to more directly hire minority students, bringing diversity into our office and our industry.

During our 6-week paid internship, the students are introduced to the fundamentals of architecture, exposed to various professional and academic paths within the architecture field, and the broader professional skills necessary for creating their own path. Our interns develop their own portfolio through independent design exercises and are introduced to real projects by joining design team discussions in the office and local project site visits. To conclude the summer, all of the participating firms gathered at the BSA for an end of summer share-out where the students presented their experiences, their impressive works and their future goals.
